Behind The Scenes

I wasn't sure what to think when Jane Porter emailed to ask if I'd consider writing about a professional bull rider. I've never written a cowboy before, and I wasn't sure I could pull it off. But then I got chatting with Jane, and she told me a story from her own life that got my story brain up and racing. And before I knew it, I had an outline for my story.  I knew I was going to have to do a lot of research, and I was absolutely thrilled when I discovered a six part documentary series on Netflix called Fearless. This series follows the lives of professional bull riders, a lot of them Brazilian, and gives you some insight into the risks and rewards of this truly kick ass sport.

My husband and I watched with our hands over our faces as riders got smashed and bucked and stomped on.  We got invested in who was going to win, who was going to redeem himself, who was going to throw in the towel. I highly recommend it if you find yourself in the least intrigued - it's a great series. It inspired me to really think about what drove my hero, Tanner, and to think about the kind of woman who could understand and complement a man like that.

Right from the start I had the drunken scene in the hotel in my mind, and I had so much fun writing it. It was one of those moments that I was really hoping I could pull off, so if you got a few giggles out of it, then my work here is done!
